Fully revitalized.

In 1953, Saul B. Marantz founded the Marantz Company in New York, marking the beginning of one of the most influential brands in high-fidelity audio. From the very beginning, the company focused on uncompromising quality and engineering precision. In the 1960s and 1970s, Marantz became one of the leading names of the global hi-fi market, setting new standards in amplifier and receiver design. The brand gained recognition for combining technical excellence with a distinctive, musical sound character. Throughout the golden era of audio, Marantz components became synonymous with reliability, innovation, and refined aesthetics. Today, classic Marantz devices remain highly valued among collectors and audiophiles worldwide.

The Marantz 1250 is an advanced pre-main integrated amplifier that combines, within a single chassis, the functionality of a sophisticated preamplifier (conceptually derived from the Model 3600) with a powerful high-current output stage. It represents one of the most ambitious engineering achievements of the brand in the mid-1970s – uncompromising in both the control section and the power stage. At the heart of the preamplifier section lies a three-stage, direct-coupled NF differential circuit in the equalizer stage. Carefully selected components with a tolerance of +- 1% allow exceptional RIAA accuracy with deviation not exceeding +- 0.3 dB. Special attention was devoted to noise performance – through extensive listening tests and precise tuning, an impressively low input equivalent noise of 0.85 uV and a dynamic margin of 110 dB were achieved. These specifications remain highly impressive even today. The Model 1250 features a unique proprietary tri-circuit system – a solution enabling simultaneous management of three signal paths. Thanks to dual front-panel selectors and extensive Tape1/Tape2 and dubbing connections, it is possible to record from a turntable onto one tape deck, mix an FM signal onto another, and listen to a different source at the same time. This functionality makes the 1250 a true control center for an advanced analog system. Tone control is implemented via a tri-control system with independent bass, midrange and treble controls for the left and right channels. Additionally, an active filter at the output of the preamp section has been precisely tuned to eliminate unwanted components without affecting the musical integrity of the signal. The attenuation curve has been engineered to allow extremely precise adjustment at low listening levels while maintaining a wide overall control range. The power supply section offers substantial energy reserves, resistant to load fluctuations at high output levels. Also noteworthy is the built-in “scope out” jack, allowing connection of an oscilloscope to visualize the audio signal – a rare feature in integrated amplifiers and clear evidence of the professional ambitions behind this model. Sonically, the Marantz 1250 delivers authority, control and a dense, richly saturated midrange characteristic of the brand. The bass is tight and well controlled, the highs detailed yet refined, and the soundstage wide and stable. It is a mature, dynamic and highly engaging presentation – supported by a construction that remains a symbol of uncompromising analog engineering.

The enclosures have undergone complete revitalization and are crafted from rosewood. The wood finish consists of Chinese oil produced from natural oils, followed by natural beeswax based on turpentine. The metal elements of the enclosure have been cleaned and refinished using professional automotive wet painting techniques. The unit has undergone a full inspection and service and has been equipped with new aluminum feet.

Collector’s set.

The device has undergone a complete inspection and service:

– complete disassembly and thorough cleaning
– cleaning and preservation of switches and potentiometers
– cleaning of circuit boards and removal of cold solder joints
– measurement and replacement of electrolytic capacitors
– adjustment of parameters according to the service manual
– re-soldering of all PCB boards and rear panel inputs/outputs
– replacement of the bulb and DC offset trimmers in both channels
– adjustment of bias currents, DC offset, voltages and power supply symmetry according to the Marantz 1250 service manual
– replacement of electrolytic capacitors in the power supply, phono preamplifier and speaker protection preamplifier sections
– replacement of screws

Technical specifications:

– power – 2 x 125 W at 8 Ohm
– frequency response – 10 Hz – 50 kHz
– total harmonic distortion – 0.01%
– input sensitivity – 1.8 mV (microphone), 1.8 mV (MM), 180 mV (line)
– damping factor – 50
– signal-to-noise ratio – 78 dB (MM), 90 dB (line)
– output – 775 mV (line), 1.5 V (pre-out)
– dimensions – 45 cm x 19 cm x 33.5 cm (width x height x depth)
– 100V power supply – voltage changing transformer included
– year of production 1977/78
– made in Japan
– weight – 20 kg

Marantz 1250.
