Fully revitalized.

In 1937 Nozomu Matsumoto created the first magnetoelectric speaker in Japan, and a year later, in Tokyo, he registered the company under the name Fukuin Shokai Denki Seisakusho. In 1961, the company’s name was changed to Pioneer Electronic Corporation. However, the breakthrough came in 1962, when the company entered the Tokyo Stock Exchange and created the world’s first stereo system with speakers in separate housings. Four years later, Pioneer opened branches in the USA and in Europe. In 1978, the company created one of the best-known and most powerful receivers in its history SX-1980. Pioneer can also be proud of great successes in the world of auto-moto, as it introduced in 1975 the world’s first automotive stereo subassembly, then in 1984 a CD player and GPS navigation in 1990. The company also played a major role in the development of DVDs, plasma TVs and technologies Organic LED display (OLED). The company is currently part of Pioneer & Onkyo Corporation.

The Exclusive M4a is a Class A power amplifier launched by Pioneer in 1981, the ?golden age? of audio equipment. It is an upgraded version of the M4 bestseller characterised by top quality and transparent and clear, distortion-free sound. Distortion has been eliminated by using the push-pull circuit, oxygen-free copper wire, gold-plated terminals and a special coating of the non-magnetic base for more stability. In order to achieve ideal sound various types of capacitors, such as Mylar, STICON and electrolytic ones, as well as non-magnetic resistors, have been used. Also, the Exclusive M4a is equipped with a 15A double-insulated and durable power cable of high capacity. The signal cables are shielded with special polymer material and braided. Thanks to these solutions it is possible to transmit a high quality signal with low loss. Fan noise is eliminated by low speed and low voltage.

Pioneer Exclusive C10 is a reference stereo preamplifier designed in the second half of the 1970s, during the period known as the “golden era” of Japanese hi-fi. This model was created as part of the prestigious Exclusive series – a line intended for the Japanese domestic market and built without technological or material compromises. The C10 represents the essence of analog precision, signal purity, and the refined operational culture characteristic of the finest designs of that era. The circuit was developed using an advanced architecture and carefully selected low-tolerance components. The use of high-quality parts – including film capacitors and low-inductance resistors – ensures parameter stability and outstanding tonal coherence. Particular attention deserves the extensive phono section, designed to work with both MM and MC cartridges. Precise RIAA equalization and a low noise floor allow the C10 to fully exploit the potential of high-end turntables. Wide adjustment options, an expanded input section, and a logical control layout make it the true control center of a sophisticated analog system. The tone control circuitry was designed with minimal signal interference in mind. It allows subtle tonal adjustment without sacrificing naturalness or dynamics, while the tone defeat function enables operation in a pure mode, bypassing additional circuitry in the audio path. Sonically, the Pioneer Exclusive C10 delivers a mature, spacious, and exceptionally musical presentation. The soundstage is wide, with clearly defined depth and precise imaging. The overall character is calm, controlled, and highly refined – typical of reference high-end designs of the 1970s. This is a construction born at a time when analog engineering reached its peak, and when a preamplifier was designed as the true heart of the system – precise, durable, and timeless.

The enclosures have been completely revitalized – rosewood was used. The wood finish is Chinese oil produced from natural oils, and natural turpentine-based beeswax. The metal elements of the enclosures have been cleaned and painted using the automotive wet painting technique. The devices have been fully reviewed and serviced, they have been equipped with new aluminum legs.

Collector’s set.

The units have undergone a complete inspection and full service.

– complete disassembly and thorough cleaning
– cleaning and preservation of switches and potentiometers
– cleaning of circuit boards and removal of cold solder joints
– inspection and replacement of electrolytic capacitors where necessary
– adjustment of parameters in accordance with the official service manual
– replacement of all trimmer potentiometers in the M4a
– re-soldering of PCB boards as well as rear panel inputs and outputs
– adjustment of the power supply, bias currents, DC offset and VU meters according to the schematic
– replacement of bulbs and repair of relays
– replacement of screws

Technical data of Pioneer Exclusive M4a

– power – 2 x 50 W at 8 Ohm, Class A
– frequency response – 20Hz – 20kHz
– harmonic distortion factor (20 Hz – 20 kHz) – 0,01% (effective output)
– harmonic distortion factor (20 Hz – 20 kHz) – 0,01% (at 25 W output power)
– harmonic distortion factor (20 Hz – 20 kHz) – 0,01% (at 1 W output power)
– output bandwidth (IHF, drives of both channels) – 5 Hz to 100 kHz (harmonic distortion factor 0,05%)
– frequency response (at 1 W output power) – 3 Hz ~ 60 kHz + 0 -1 dB
– input sensitivity – input 1, 2: 1 V, 2 V/50 kOhm
– damping factor (20 Hz – 20 kHz, 8 Ohm) – 30
– maximum power consumption – 320 W
– dimensions – 47 cm x 21 cm x 38 cm (width x height x depth)
– 100V power supply, voltage changing transformer included
– year of production 1981
– made in Japan
– weight – 29 kg

Technical data of Pioneer Exclusive C10

– stereo preamplifier
– frequency response – 3 Hz – 80 kHz
– total harmonic distortion – 0.002%
– input sensitivity – 2.5 mV (MM), 150 mV (line)
– signal-to-noise ratio – 90 dB (MM), 105 dB (line)
– output – 150 mV (line), 1 V (pre-out), 15 V (maximum pre-out)
– dimensions – 47 cm x 21 cm x 34.5 cm (width x height x depth)
– 100V power supply, voltage changing transformer included
– year of production – 1980
– made in Japan
– weight – 14 kg

Pioneer Exclusive M4a.
