Description
Yamaha GT 2000 Turntable. Sumiko Blue Point No.2 Cartridge. Exclusive version. Fully revitalized.
In 1887 Torakusu Yamaha built his first keyboard wind instrument. Ten years later Torakusu established Nippon Gakki Co. Ltd. and produced pianos and reed organs, which were rewarded in 1904 with Honorary Main Reward at the World Fair in Saint Louis. In the following years, the company extended its offer of musical instruments and produced pianos, acoustic guitars, trumpets, percussions, electric guitars, etc. The company also began to produce audio equipment. The first turntables were created in the 1920s, but especially valued hi-fi devices (mainly amplifiers and CD players) and high-quality loudspeakers that complemented them were created in the 70’s and 80’s. In 1955, as the Yamaha Motor Company, the company also dealt with the production of two-wheelers, and from the early 70’s, professional sound equipment currently known as Yamaha Pro Audio.
The Yamaha GT-2000 is a turntable from the GT series, created as part of the “Gigantic & Tremendous” design concept. It was produced between 1982 and 1989 and then re-released in 1991 as a limited edition product. The platter was made using the hot forging method, where aluminum (refined to nearly 100% purity) is heated to temperatures of 500-700 degrees Celsius, compressed using a special high-pressure press, and then precisely finished by cutting and machining. This unique process makes the platter less prone to scratches and, more importantly, helps maintain accurate dynamic balance. Additionally, the platter has a large diameter of 374 mm to increase the moment of inertia. The turntable also uses a coreless DC spindle motor with an initial torque of 2 kg-cm, which drives the platter directly, eliminating stuttering. The turntable was equipped with a long, lightweight S-shaped tonearm with a height adjustment mechanism ranging from +10 mm to – 6 mm. The headshell is made from a solid aluminum block and designed to prevent harmful vibrations. The RCA cable uses low-impedance NEGLEX 2496 dual-cylinder cables (26- and 23-wire) and is connected to the tonearm at the shortest possible distance, with no cables running through the enclosure, to minimize information loss and interference from internal wiring. The Yamaha GT-2000 is an exceptional turntable that combines Japanese quality of craftsmanship with customizable options, making it an excellent choice for demanding analogue sound enthusiasts.
The enclosure has been fully revitalized, made of rosewood. The wood finish is Chinese oil produced from natural oils and natural turpentine-based beeswax. All metal and wooden, external and internal components of the turntable have been cleaned and painted using the automotive wet painting technique. The device has been fully reviewed and serviced. The turntable is equipped with new feet.
