Description
Marantz PM-8 Mk II. Exclusive Version. Fully revitalized.
In 1953, Saul B. Marantz founded the Marantz Company in New York, marking the beginning of one of the most influential brands in high-fidelity audio. From the very beginning, the company focused on uncompromising quality and engineering precision. In the 1960s and 1970s, Marantz became one of the leading names of the global hi-fi market, setting new standards in amplifier and receiver design. The brand gained recognition for combining technical excellence with a distinctive, musical sound character. Throughout the golden era of audio, Marantz components became synonymous with reliability, innovation, and refined aesthetics. Today, classic Marantz devices remain highly valued among collectors and audiophiles worldwide.
The PM-8 Mk II is one of the flagship integrated amplifiers from Marantz, introduced at the turn of the late 1970s and early 1980s. It represented the culmination of the company’s engineering philosophy-combining high output power with precision, stability, and the characteristic musicality of Marantz designs from that era. Delivering 150 watts per channel into 8 ohms, the amplifier is built around a fully DC-coupled circuit architecture, ensuring wide frequency response and excellent signal integrity. The robust power supply section, featuring a large transformer and substantial filtering capacitors, guarantees high current capability, stable operation, and impressive dynamic headroom. As a result, the PM-8 Mk II maintains excellent control over demanding loudspeakers while preserving clarity and transparency across the entire frequency spectrum. Particular attention was given to the phono stage, which supports both MM and MC cartridges. The carefully engineered audio path ensures low noise levels, high signal purity, and exceptional tonal balance. The amplifier delivers a deep, well-defined soundstage, precise imaging, controlled and authoritative bass, rich midrange textures, and detailed yet smooth high frequencies. To this day, the Marantz PM-8 Mk II is admired for its transparency, coherence, and dynamic presentation, making it one of the most sought-after integrated amplifiers from the golden era of late 1970s and early 1980s audio engineering.
The enclosure has undergone complete revitalization and is crafted from rosewood. The wood finish consists of Chinese oil produced from natural oils, combined with natural turpentine-based beeswax. The metal elements of the enclosure have been thoroughly cleaned and refinished using the automotive “wet painting” technique. The unit has been fully inspected and serviced and fitted with new aluminum feet.
