Description

JansZen speakers. Classic Vintage. Fully revitalized.

During World War II, Arthur A. Janszen worked as an associate professor of physics and dealt with defense technologies (regarding acoustics) for the US troops. Janszen decided to continue the work on electrostatic loudspeakers in a small laboratory that he set up in his own apartment. In 1954, when he was convinced that he would be able to sell his own product, he resigned his position as a professor and in 1955 founded Janszen Laboratory, Inc. in North Cambridge. It was then that he developed a series of products considered legendary today, such as the 1-30 tweeter system. In 1959, he decided to accept a license offer from Neshaminy Electronic Corp., which used the Janszen’s tweeter in its own designs.
At the same time, the assets of Janszen Laboratory, Inc. were transferred to KLH Research Corp. and Jansen became vice president of this company. When the visitors to the KLH laboratory heard music, they were often surprised that the sound came from the loudspeaker, not a live band employed on-site. Jansen was involved in many of the company’s projects (mainly KLH Nine), and after leaving it, for some time he engaged himself in various non-acoustic activities. Later in time, an investment group led by Koss Electronics, Inc. turned to the designer with an offer he could not refuse to create full-range electrostatic speakers integrated with the first high-fidelity solid-state amplifier at the Acoustic Technology Laboratory, Inc. (i.e. Acoustech, Inc., a.k.a. The Acoustech Division of Koss Electronics).

This system was known as “The Ten” and the model was designated as Acoustech X.

In the mid-70s, Janszen was hired by the Electrostatic Research Corporation in order to develop a hybrid for the mass market. The work resulted in a model with an unusual multidimensional design called ER-139, which ensured high quality of sound at an affordable price. Customers who were used to the then popular mid-range speakers were impressed. Unfortunately, the founder of the Electrostatic Research Corporation, amidst financial problems, broke cooperation with Janszen, and then deprived him of the rights to the tweeter, which he used in new projects of Denessen Electrostatic brand.

After the Neshaminy ended in the mid-70s, the company’s assets were taken over by Electronics Industries (E.I.), a group that continued to manufacture loudspeakers under the JansZen brand. All products were based on the 1950s versions of JansZen tweeters. Following the work of Arthur Jansen, who died in 1991, his son Dawid founded JansZen Loudspeaker, Ltd.

JansZen loudspeakers have surprisingly natural and vast sound with a detailed and wide soundstage characterized by impressive dynamics (29 cm subwoofer). Due to the fact that the speakers accurately reproduce the original, multidimensional arrangement of the recording, together with its richness of all details and nuances, the listener can feel like being in the studio or at a concert.

The enclosures have been completely revitalized. Exotic acajou wood adds incredible charm to the speakers. The wood finish is Chinese oil produced from natural oils. The wood is very pleasant to the touch.

Included are two speaker cables with a cross section of 2 × 2.5mm and length of  2x5m
The set is 100% functional, the speakers are in perfect condition.
