Description
Pioneer PL 70 II Turntable. Classic Vintage. Denon DL 103 LC II. Fully revitalized.
In 1937 Nozomu Matsumoto created the first magnetoelectric speaker in Japan, and a year later, he registered in Tokyo the company with the name Fukuin Shokai Denki Seisakusho. In 1961, the company’s name was changed to Pioneer Electronic Corporation. However, the breakthrough came in 1962, when the company entered the Tokyo Stock Exchange and created the world’s first stereo system with speakers in separate housings. Four years later, Pioneer opened branches in the USA and in Europe. In 1978, the company created one of the best-known and most powerful receivers in its history SX-1980. Pioneer can also be proud of great successes in the world of auto-moto, as it introduced in 1975 the world’s first automotive stereo subassembly, then in 1984 a CD player and GPS navigation in 1990. The company also played a major role in the development of DVDs, plasma TVs and Organic LED display technologies (OLED). The company is currently a part of Pioneer & Onkyo Corporation.
The Pioneer PL 70LII turntable is an example of the highest quality Japanese hi-fi from the early 80s, valued for its operational stability, precision craftsmanship, and advanced mechanical solutions. It was developed as an evolution of the PL 70 model, with the aim of achieving exceptionally pure and accurate sound thanks to innovative components and a refined drive system. The 31 cm diameter platter was made using a low-pressure casting method, which ensures high material density and excellent dynamic balance. An additional damping layer eliminates structural vibrations, and the entire drive system is powered by a coreless quartz PLL DC servo motor with a Stable Hanging Rotor system, which minimizes cogging and ensures stable, even rotation. An electronic lift with a linear motor and a contactless platter braking system eliminate mechanical noise during starting and stopping. The variable oil damping system effectively reduces low-frequency resonances and can reduce distortion by up to 9 dB – even when playing slightly warped records. The turntable also features a high signal-to-noise ratio, exceeding 78 dB (DIN-B), which guarantees clean, detailed sound without interference. The Pioneer PL 70LII is a device that combines classic, understated design with refined mechanics and technological precision, offering both reliability and sophisticated sound quality.
The enclosure has been fully revitalized and is made from rosewood. The wood finish is Chinese oil produced from natural oils and natural, turpentine-based beeswax. All external and internal metal components of the turntable have been cleaned and painted using the automotive wet painting technique. The device has been fully reviewed and serviced.
