Description
Pioneer PL 50 II Turntable. Classic Vintage. Audio Technica AT 150 E. Fully revitalized.
In 1937 Nozomu Matsumoto created the first magnetoelectric speaker in Japan, and a year later, he registered in Tokyo the company with the name Fukuin Shokai Denki Seisakusho. In 1961, the company’s name was changed to Pioneer Electronic Corporation. However, the breakthrough came in 1962, when the company entered the Tokyo Stock Exchange and created the world’s first stereo system with speakers in separate housings. Four years later, Pioneer opened branches in the USA and in Europe.
In 1978, the company created one of the best-known and most powerful receivers in its history SX-1980. Pioneer can also be proud of great successes in the world of auto-moto, as it introduced in 1975 the world’s first automotive stereo subassembly, then in 1984 a CD player and GPS navigation in 1990. The company also played a major role in the development of DVDs, plasma TVs and Organic LED display technologies (OLED). The company is currently a part of Pioneer & Onkyo Corporation.
The Pioneer PL 50II turntable is a true example of Japanese audio engineering from the late 70s, valued for its operational stability, high-quality craftsmanship, and advanced technical solutions. The 310 mm platter is made of a heavy aluminum alloy and features a high moment of inertia of 330 kg-cm2, which ensures very stable rotations and effective elimination of microvibrations during playback.
The quartz PLL drive system, equipped with a coreless DC motor and Stable Hanging Rotor system, guarantees exceptionally quiet operation, low wow & flutter distortion – below 0.012% – and precise speed maintenance. The rotational speed deviation does not exceed 0.002%, and time drift is just 0.00008% per hour, resulting in absolute operational stability even during extended listening sessions. The turntable also features a high signal-to-noise ratio, exceeding 78 dB (DIN B), delivering pure, clear sound while preserving every detail – even in the quietest passages of music. The Pioneer PL 50II is a model that combines classic, timeless design with excellent sound quality and reliability.
The housing has been fully revitalized and is made from rosewood. The wood finish is Chinese oil produced from natural oils, and natural turpentine-based beeswax. All external and internal metal components of the turntable have been cleaned and painted using the automotive wet painting technique. The device has been fully reviewed and serviced. The turntable has also been fitted with new aluminum feet.
